VIVA TERLINGUA!!!

Ron and I took a little trip to Terlingua last week. Such a different world. I do love my trees and grass and flowers, but there is a certain peaceful beauty to the desert. We had a splendid time.
We rented an adobe called Casa Terlingua.

This was our view from the porch into Big Bend National Park
The ghost town of Terlingua once a thriving mining town

This home is called The Mansion. It was the mine owner's home
There are actually two restored rooms in The Mansion that rented by the night. We thought about staying here, because it is definately our kind of place, but they were booked, and we like having our own bathroom and kitchen. (the bathroom is shared here and there is no kitchen)

The old Church is being restored
There has always been something about old cemeteries that intriques me. The one in Terlingua is pretty facinating.

We spent a wonderful day in Big Bend, went to Marfa to try to see the lights, no such luck for the second time, and then on to Fort Davis. I won't bore you with those pictures. It was a great trip, but we're glad to be home. Oh and it rained 6 inches while we were gone!!!!!

  5. Binky, next time you're out that way you should go to Shafter, it's a mining ghost town, too, with a really cool cemetery. AND there's a kind of museum thing with photos from all the movies that have been filmed in the area. PLUS...you get to drive by elephant rock, which *surprise* looks like an elephant! So many photo ops out that way with the beautiful clear skies and mountains. Bill was just in Ft. Davis over the weekend. Hope to get to Llano soon...
