I started selling antiques to Tim and Carol Bolton of Homestead fame back in 1989. By 1991 I had moved from Llano to Fredericksburg to work for them full time as a buyer and visual stylist. I traveled to Europe, Mexico and all over the U.S. buying antiques and gifts. When I first started working at Homestead there was only one store and there was only one employee who wasn't a family member. When I left the company in 1999 it had grown into 5 stores, a consulting business, Carol Hicks Bolton furniture line and employeed something like 50 people. Funny how things come full circle.So in addition to having my own store, I am back at Homestead now, working there 2 days a week as a visual stylist. I am in Fredericksburg anyway because I take my grandsons to a wonderful little school (Ambleside) there. So here I am 20 years after first meeting the Boltons, back at Homestead, and it is much like it was 20 years ago. There is one employee besides me who isn't a family member, the store, while much larger than the original is only one store now, and the majority of the merchandise is amazing antiques that you don't find just anywhere. It is truly a pleasure working with such an incredible collection of antiques. So plan a trip to Fredericksburg soon, Homestead is filled to the brim with wonderful treasures and is having a 20 to 50 percent discount on all antiques priced over 100.00!!!
